Hi Everyone!
We have come to the end of our summer course!! Please make sure your assignment is posted on your blog and that you have commented on two of your classmates’s assignments. I will have your assessment back to you as soon as possible. If not today then certainly by the end of the week.
Thanks for joining me this summer! I hope you enjoy the rest of your break—and for those who are completing their degrees–congratulations! JT
The Cosmic Art of Lovecraft–thank you Tom!

I chose this website because it includes various pieces of art that all encapsulate the essence of H.P. Lovecraft’s work. The art displays the influence that Lovecraft has had on artist and pop culture. The website includes images from a hardcover art book, The Art of Lovecraft: Artists Inspired by Lovecraft. Each image brings the fantastical world of Lovecraft to life, highlighted by the mystical, omnipotent creatures, such as Cthulhu.
What did you find? Remember–projects due tomorrow. Make sure that it is visible and all the links work :)
Neil Gaiman is author of Coraline, The Graveyard Book, graphic novels, and more…
We’ve seen many methods of storytelling and choices for narrative structure this semester. You might think about how “Cthulhu” is told and why.
What roles do the poet, artist, dreamer, and scholar have in the story?
We saw how James uses children to create a sense of dread and uncertainty; how does Lovecraft use the past/history to create horror/fear?
Projects due June 30th!
I hope everyone has chosen a topic for the final assignment. It is a multi-modal assignment, meaning it employs not only traditional writing but also includes audio/visual elements and/or social media.
Please let me know if you have any questions. We will finish up Cthulu this week…think a bit about the Gothic for Monday, and then post our final projects on Tuesday.
Be creative and have fun with it!
Like Edgar Allan Poe, H.P. Lovecraft was a master of the macabre. He is a cult figure (and his story “Cthulu” has inspired much popular culture (as a brief internet search will show).
